How to Link a Traxxas TQ Remote to the Receiver
Linking (binding) a Traxxas TQ 2.4 GHz remote to its receiver takes a minute: hold the SET button on the transmitter while you switch it on, then hold the LINK button on the receiver while you switch on the car’s ESC. Release both; when the transmitter and receiver LEDs turn solid green, they’re linked. Keep the two within about 1.5 m of each other and away from other 2.4 GHz transmitters while you do it.

Step by step
- Make sure the transmitter has fresh AA batteries and the car’s battery is charged.
- Press and hold SET on the transmitter and switch it on. Release when the LED blinks red slowly.
- Press and hold the LINK button on the receiver and switch the car’s ESC on. Release.
- Wait a few seconds. The LEDs on both units turn solid green.
- Test steering and throttle with the wheels off the ground.
The order can be the other way round (receiver first) on some versions; the manual for your model shows the exact sequence. If you have several Traxxas models on TQi radios, each model memory is linked separately.

If it won’t link
- Replace the transmitter’s AA batteries; low voltage blocks linking.
- Make sure the receiver is getting power: the ESC must be on and its battery charged.
- Check that the steering servo and ESC plugs are in the right receiver channels.
- Move away from Wi-Fi routers and other running transmitters.
- Older 27 MHz Traxxas radios don’t link: they use crystals instead.
- A TQ transmitter only links to a compatible Traxxas receiver; other brands won’t work.
Linking a new or replacement receiver
Replacement receivers, or a second car, must be linked once using the same steps. After linking, check failsafe: switch off the transmitter with the car’s wheels in the air; the throttle should return to neutral. TQ vs TQi
TQ is the basic Traxxas 2.4 GHz system; TQi adds model memory and telemetry with sensors, and works with the Traxxas Link app through a Bluetooth module. Linking follows the same principle, and TQi transmitters can be set to remember several cars so you only link once per car.
Correct power-on order every time
Once linked, always switch the transmitter on first and the car second; switch off in reverse order (car first, then transmitter). This avoids the car running away when the receiver powers up without a signal. Let the car sit still for a second after switching on so the ESC can detect neutral.
Range test after linking
With the car on a stand, walk away with the transmitter while a helper watches the wheels respond. Steering should stay smooth well beyond the distance you normally drive. If control stutters close by, check that the receiver antenna isn’t cut, kinked or lying against metal or carbon, and route it up through an antenna tube.
