LEAMBE RC Plane: P-51 and P-40 Mini Warbirds for Beginners

RC Airplanes

LEAMBE sells small ready-to-fly foam RC planes, mostly mini warbirds styled as the P-51 Mustang and P-40 Warhawk. They have 4-channel control on 2.4 GHz, an Xpilot gyro stabilisation system with three modes, a coreless motor, one-key aerobatics and a wingspan of roughly 40 cm (about 15–16 inches). Listings claim flights of up to about 12 minutes. They’re aimed at beginners and gift buyers who want a cheap, light plane for calm days.

Who it suits

A LEAMBE mini warbird suits a first-time pilot who wants something cheap and light, a parent buying for a teenager, or an experienced pilot who wants a small plane for calm evenings. The gyro makes it more forgiving than older toy planes, and four channels (throttle, rudder, elevator and ailerons) let you learn proper control. The small size means wind is its biggest enemy: anything more than a light breeze pushes it around.

First flight

  1. Charge the battery fully and check the propeller is fitted correctly.
  2. Choose a big grassy field on a still day; mornings and evenings are calmest.
  3. Use the most stable mode first.
  4. Hand-launch level into the wind at medium-high throttle, or use the auto-launch function if your version has it.
  5. Climb to a safe height and fly wide circles.
  6. Land by gently reducing throttle while flying into the wind.

Care and repairs

  • Glue foam cracks with foam-safe glue.
  • Carry spare propellers; they break first.
  • Recharge batteries only after they cool down.
  • Check the propeller saver and control horns after landings.

Limits of a small coreless plane

Coreless motors are light but wear out faster than brushless ones, and the small battery limits power for climbing in wind. When you’re ready for bigger fields and windier days, a larger brushless trainer is the natural next step. Budget options are compared in good cheap RC planes, and similar mini warbirds in Kidstoylover planes.

Buying tips

Check which version you’re buying (the “2.0” redesign mentions extra maintenance ports and auto-launch), how many batteries are included, and whether spare propellers and wings are sold. Read reviews for the same model number, as several versions exist.

Stabilisation modes explained

Xpilot-type gyros usually offer a beginner mode that limits how far the plane can bank and pitch and levels it when you let go, an intermediate mode with more freedom, and an expert mode with only light stabilisation. One-key aerobatics performs a roll or loop automatically when you press a button, which is fun but uses height, so try it high up. Start in the most stable mode and only move up when the plane feels slow to react. If you get disoriented, letting go of the sticks in beginner mode usually brings the plane back to level flight.

Can it fly indoors?

A very large indoor space like a sports hall can work for a light plane of this size, but most homes are far too small. The plane needs room to turn, and walls come up quickly. Outdoors on a calm day is the better choice.
