How Big Is the Traxxas Maxx? Dimensions, Weight and Comparisons
The Traxxas Maxx is a large 1/10-scale monster truck. With the WideMaxx suspension it measures about 572 mm (22.5 in) long, 405 mm (15.95 in) wide and 232 mm (9.1 in) tall, on a 352 mm (13.85 in) wheelbase, and weighs about 4.7 kg (10.4 lb). That makes it noticeably bigger and heavier than typical 1/10 trucks, but far smaller than the 8S X-Maxx. It runs on 4S LiPo and Traxxas rates it at 60+ mph with optional gearing.

Compared with other trucks
- Typical 1/10 monster trucks (e.g. Stampede-class): shorter, narrower and roughly half the weight.
- Traxxas X-Maxx: much bigger 8S truck, roughly twice as heavy, and needs a large car to transport.
- 1/8 bashers: similar in feel and weight; the Maxx sits between 1/10 and 1/8 in size.

What the size means in practice
The Maxx fits in most car boots and on a garage shelf, but it’s too big and fast for a small backyard. Its weight and big tyres let it handle long grass, gravel and big jumps far better than smaller trucks. The WideMaxx width improves cornering and reduces rollovers. It also means bigger impacts: a 4.7 kg truck at speed can damage cars and injure people, so it needs space.
Batteries and run time
The Maxx takes two 2S packs or one 4S pack (depending on battery tray configuration); Traxxas iD packs are the simple option. Run time depends on capacity and driving, often 15–25 minutes. Larger packs fit the tray but add weight.
Transport and storage
- Needs about 60 × 42 cm of floor space.
- Remove the batteries for transport and storage.
- Store on a stand to keep tyres from flat-spotting.
- A large tool bag for spares and charger.
Who it suits
The Maxx is a good choice for bashers who want something tougher and bigger than a standard 1/10 truck without the cost and size of an X-Maxx. Beginners can use Training Mode to limit speed. For waterproof alternatives see the best 4×4 waterproof RC trucks.
Where to drive a Maxx
Good spots are BMX tracks with permission, empty gravel lots, construction-free dirt areas and large parks where the rules allow RC cars. The Maxx needs room to accelerate and land jumps, so a small garden is too tight for anything but slow driving. Check for people, dogs and traffic, and avoid driving near parked cars: a heavy truck can dent panels.
Maintenance for a heavy truck
Weight and power load the drivetrain. After each session, check the wheel nuts, suspension pins, driveshafts and shock mounts. Look for cracks in the arms and bulkheads after big jumps, and keep spares of the parts that break most often. Clean dirt from the motor’s cooling fins and the ESC fan, since heat is what shortens the life of brushless systems.
