HJ808 RC Boat: Specs, Speed and What to Expect From This Budget Racer

RC Boats

The HJ808 is a budget ready-to-run RC speedboat sold under many shop names. It’s about 36 cm long with a deep-V hull and is listed at around 25 km/h (about 15 mph), on a 7.4 V 1100 mAh battery giving roughly 15–20 minutes of running per pack after a charge of about two hours. It uses a 2.4 GHz remote with a range quoted around 150 m, has a capsize recovery function and water-cooled motor on some versions, and is aimed at pools, ponds and calm lakes.

What to expect

For its price, the HJ808 is quick enough to be fun on a small lake and simple to use. It’s not a hobby-grade brushless boat: speed is modest, the hull is light plastic that bounces in chop, and parts support depends on the seller. Treat the run time and range as best-case figures. Faster budget boats are compared in cheap and fast RC boats.

Before the first run

  1. Charge the battery fully with the supplied cable.
  2. Check the hatch seal and lock it firmly.
  3. Switch on the remote first, then the boat.
  4. Test the propeller and rudder out of the water only for a second.
  5. Launch on calm water with the wind blowing toward you.

Running tips

  • Stay well within range; bring it back at the low-battery warning.
  • Avoid weeds, which wrap around the propeller.
  • Don’t run in waves bigger than the boat can handle.
  • Use the capsize recovery if it flips, then bring it in.
  • Have a plan to retrieve a stranded boat, like a fishing line or a calm shore downwind.

After running

Open the hatch and dry the inside, remove the battery, wipe the hull, and let everything dry before storing. Check the propeller and rudder for damage. Store the battery partly charged at room temperature, and don’t charge a hot battery.

Pool use

The HJ808 is small enough for a large pool, but chlorine and debris can affect seals and the propeller, so rinse with fresh water afterwards and keep away from swimmers.

When to step up

If you outgrow it, hobby-grade boats with brushless motors and spare parts support are faster and tougher. Options for larger water are in best RC boat for a lake.

Hull and handling

The HJ808 uses a small deep-V hull with a single propeller and a rudder. On flat water it runs straight and turns tightly at speed, but the light hull hops over wakes and wind ripples, and hard turns at full throttle can roll it over. That’s where the capsize recovery helps: on many versions, reversing the motor or pressing a button flips the boat back upright. It works best on calm water and isn’t guaranteed in waves. Because it’s small, it’s hard to see beyond about 100 m, so keep it closer than the quoted range to avoid losing track of its direction.

For children

It’s often bought as a gift for older children. An adult should handle charging and stay nearby at the water’s edge, and children should never wade in after a stuck boat.
