Raminator RC Truck: Primal RC’s 1/5 Gas Monster Truck Explained

RC Cars

The Raminator RC truck is Primal RC’s 1/5 scale replica of the Raminator monster truck. It’s a gas-powered, four-wheel-drive, solid-axle monster with a 49 cc two-stroke engine rated at 6+ hp, a remote kill switch, a 1200 cc fuel tank for runs of a few hours, and a top speed of about 20–30 mph with high-speed gears. It’s about 39 inches long and 24 inches tall and weighs around 80 pounds (85 lb for the V4). It’s a truly huge RC truck, built for scale realism and tough driving.

What it’s like

The Raminator is less about speed and more about presence: an 80-pound truck that climbs, crushes and wheelies like a real monster truck, with the sound of a big two-stroke. Solid axles and big tyres give it a realistic, heavy feel. The large tank means you run for hours rather than minutes, which is part of the appeal compared with electric trucks. It needs a lot of space and a strong back to carry. Smaller, more practical trucks are compared in remote control monster trucks.

What owning one takes

  • Space: a large field or private land; it’s too big for most parks.
  • Transport: a pickup, van or large car boot, and two people to lift it.
  • Fuel: petrol mixed with two-stroke oil at the specified ratio.
  • Maintenance: air filter cleaning, spark plug checks, drivetrain inspections.
  • Budget: parts for a 1/5 truck cost more than for 1/10.

Running tips

  1. Break in the engine as the manual describes, with rich settings and moderate throttle.
  2. Keep the air filter clean and oiled; dust destroys engines fast.
  3. Check screws and axle bolts after every session; vibration loosens them.
  4. Use the kill switch and keep bystanders far away.
  5. Let the engine cool before refuelling.

Safety

An 80-pound truck at 20–30 mph can break bones and damage cars. Never run it near people, pets or roads, and make sure the failsafe and kill switch work before every run. Store fuel safely and refuel away from heat sources.

Alternatives

If you want big but not this big, 1/8 or 1/6 electric monster trucks give similar fun with less weight and simpler maintenance. Other large 1/5 vehicles are covered in 1/5 scale RC cars.

Before buying

  • A place to run it legally and safely.
  • A way to transport it.
  • Budget for fuel, oil, spares and a stand.
  • Comfort with gas engine maintenance.

The real Raminator

The full-size Raminator is a monster truck known for its Ram pickup body and for setting a speed record for monster trucks. Primal RC’s model copies the body style and the solid-axle stance, which is why it looks so convincing next to smaller RC monster trucks. Fans of the real truck often buy the model as much for display and events as for driving.
